Chikako Tada, food journalist, and editor of Pen & Spoon, a website devoted to food. A former reporter with The Asahi Shimbun daily who has authored seven cookbooks, with a Pâtisserie Diploma from Le Cordon Bleu Paris, and the mother of a 10-year-old.
Born in Okayama, western Japan, Chikako initially developed an interest in food and places outside Japan when she read The Anne of Green Gables Cookbook at the age of eight. She began helping her mom with the cooking after her father passed away when she was nine and made cream puffs with a friend that brought on a lightbulb moment: Hey, cooking is fun!
Chikako worked as a newspaper reporter, which had always been her dream, for 12 years before going freelance. She spent two years studying baking in Paris and began making Bento around 2016 during her stay in India, returning to Japan in 2020.
